Quilt Market - My Final Day

Sunday was my last day at Fall Quilt Market.
I wrapped up my trip by revisiting fabric suppliers and magazine publishers.
I happened to stop by the Fons and Porter booth again and was lucky enough to meet Mary Fons. I also stopped by the APQS booth and tried out a Millennium long are.  I really like the machine, but think I may have to put off a purchase until next year.

Quilt Market - Day 2

Wow, what a day. I was able to meet with Jason Yenter and Marriane Fons.  I also got to meet and talk with Ty Pennington (what a great guy!)  I also got to meet with editors from AQS Publishing and Fons and Porter Love of Quilting. (of course I got to hang with Tula Pink too!)

Me and Marianne Fons (I learned to quilt watching Fons and Porter)

Apart from the great meetings, I got to see a lot of new fabrics.  Lines for Hoffman, Kona Bay, In The Beginning, Fabri-Quilt and Newcastle.  I am excited to see these new lines in stores and to use them in upcoming patterns.

On another note, I was able to head over to the International Quilt Show and see my Hoffman Challenge quilt.

Quilt Market: Day 1

Well, I would label the first day here in Houston as a success.  I met a lot of shop owners and quilters and was able to talk about my book 'Stars and Strips Forever', class and patterns.  I was able to make some great contacts with some members of a local quilt guild looking for instructors and lecturers.  One of the shop owners I met was from the Atlanta area, we discussed fabric (of course I had to mentions Tula Pink and Jason Yenter), retreats and teaching.
I attended the Sample Spree last night, what a wild evening.  Shop owners, designers and general buyers hustling to get the newest fabric samples for their shops. I was a personal satisfaction to me when vendors saw the name of my company and recognized the name! Guess my marketing errors are paying off big time!

Tools of the trade

Every quilter knows the importance of a good sewing machine and iron.  But there are some often over looked tools.

I was recently the happy recipient of some fine tools made by Westenskow & Sons. A seam ripper, stiletto and a seam presser.  These tools have hand-carved handles and are light weight.  They are even flat on one side to prevent them from rolling off the sewing table (I don't know how many times I have had to search for mine on the floor in the past)

I thought I was satisfied with my bamboo skewer, but have discovered using this stiletto so much more efficient. The seam ripper's shank is longer that the typical ones that I have used, and the one flat side makes it so much easier to hold.

I think these tools would make a great addition to any ones sewing box, or a great gift idea for you favorite quilting buddy (hint, the holidays are fast approaching!)

You can find out more information on these tools from Anne Henrie.  There is also a demo of the seam presser tool.
